What is The Simple Kitchen?
The Simple Kitchen is a recipe sharing site that focuses on the simplicity of what real food has to offer. On this site you’ll find plant-based recipes emphasizing food from the earth, not from a factory. No creepy chemicals or ‘secret sauces’ here!
Well number one, because you ARE worth it! Your body deserves to be nourished with health-rich food so that you can live an energetic and vital life. But beyond that, here at The Simple Kitchen we see meal time as a way to slow down (put away those mobile devices!) so that you can connect with each other and nature one simple meal at a time.
For centuries people have been convening together over meals but for many of us that is no longer happening due to our overly busy lives. We are becoming a society that has social (media) interaction but we no longer have human interaction and there are many negative consequences. Bringing people together is important and so is your health. It’s my hope that this site will provide you with the resources you need to eat healthfully for yourself and so that you can share that love with others. Because every meal really is an opportunity… for better health, for better choices and for you to shine, from a health perspective because you truly shine from the inside out when you eat nourishing foods, and in the kitchen because you just prepared an awesome healthy meal for your friends and family – go you!
So, is this site vegan/paleo/gluten-free?
We much prefer to focus on the abundance of what you can eat rather than what you cannot, because eating is SO.MUCH.FUN! That being said, you are bound to see loads of fresh fruits and vegetables, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, whole grains and natural sweeteners (fruit, honey, maple syrup or honey). Occasionally you might see a recipe on this site (or a picture on my Instagram) that includes eggs, dairy, soy, refined sugar or organic purchased products (I haven’t figured out how to make everything from scratch… yet!) but for the most part, recipes will be free of those ingredients. So did I answer your question? Perhaps not, but labels just aren’t my thing :).
Hi, I am Chelsea! You might call me a mostly vegan crossfitting Dailey Method lover who is fascinated by humans, health, travel and adventure. When there is good food, good wine and good company in my presence, all is right in the world. That being said, I have a minor obsession with food. Yes, I am thinking about what I will have for dinner when lunch has just ended and every travel itinerary revolves heavily on where to eat and drink. Some people love art or sports… well, I love food! But at the same time, health is a huge priority and that is why I focus on food from the earth to fuel my body. It’s really hard to go wrong when you are eating the right food!
Want a little more? I live in a one bedroom apartment in San Francisco and have a very simple kitchen (I’m taller than my fridge if that tells you anything) so you won’t see a lot of bells and whistles in my recipes – you simply need quality food, a good attitude and lots of love. I am shooting on a Canon Rebel T1i with the standard lens (although hopefully one day I’ll upgrade). I have no official training in cooking, photography or word press but everything you see on this site has been created by me. I got to where I am today thanks to free and affordable online courses (and a lot of practice!) and I continue to learn more every day.
